Nike gives 10% off most items to five groups: military, first responders, medical professionals (including nurses), teachers and students. The percentage is the same for everyone, but the rules are not. Only the military discount works in Nike stores, every code is single-use, and the 10% stops counting after the first $500 of an order. Below is every rule taken from Nike’s own help pages, plus the mistakes we found on other sites.
- Discount
- 10% off most items, all five groups
- Limit per code
- Applies to the first $500 of a qualified purchase, so the most one code can save is $50
- How often
- Each code works once. You can get a new code once every seven days. A code expires two weeks after it is issued.
- Verification
- SheerID (not ID.me, not UNiDAYS)
- Stacks with
- Free shipping promo codes only
- Not eligible
- Nike By You, gift cards, select Launch and SNKRS products, Apple products, Swoosh.com

Who qualifies and where each discount works
Nike runs five separate programs with separate verification forms. This is the part most summaries get wrong, so here they are side by side.
| Group | Who Nike lists | Nike.com and app | Nike stores |
|---|---|---|---|
| Military | Active, reservist, veteran and retired US military, plus spouses and dependents of active personnel | Yes | Yes, show a valid military ID. Not valid at Nike Company Stores. |
| First responders | EMTs, firefighters, law enforcement and similar roles | Yes | No |
| Medical professionals | Doctors, nurses, technicians, medical researchers and similar roles | Yes | No |
| Teachers | Teachers, faculty, staff and administrators at accredited K-12 schools and universities | Yes | No |
| Students | High school, college and university students aged 16 or older | Yes | No |
Every group needs a Nike Member account to use the code online. Spouses and dependents of veterans or retirees are not on Nike’s list. Only family of active-duty personnel is.
How to get the code
- Open the verification form for your group (military, first responder, medical, teacher or student). It is run by SheerID.
- Fill it in. You may be asked to upload a document. For teachers Nike gives examples such as a dated ID card, a pay stub from the last 90 days or an official letter. Teachers also need a school-issued email address.
- After approval you receive a single-use promo code for 10% off most items.
- Sign in to your Nike Member profile and enter the code at checkout within two weeks.
- For your next order, verify again to get a fresh code. Nike allows one new code every seven days.
In a Nike store, military customers skip the code and show a valid military ID at checkout.
What 10% is worth, and the $500 rule
Because the discount only applies to the first $500 of an order, it is worth exactly 10% up to $500 and less after that. A $700 order saves $50, which works out to about 7.1%.
10% off eligible items. The discount on one Nike code stops at $50 per order, which you reach after $500 of eligible spending.
What the rules imply for big purchases: since you can get one new code every seven days, two orders of $500 placed at least a week apart save $100, while one $1,000 order saves $50. This follows directly from Nike’s code terms. It is not a trick Nike advertises.
Does it stack with sales or other promo codes?
Nike’s code terms say the discount “can be used in combination with free shipping promo codes only.” So it does not combine with a percentage-off promo code. Nike’s terms do not say that sale items are excluded. They say “most items” and list specific exclusions, so marked-down products are not ruled out by the terms we read.
If Nike is running a public promo code worth more than 10%, use that instead. The military, nurse, teacher or student code will not add on top of it.
Nike vs adidas for military, nurses and teachers
adidas covers the same groups but with a very different structure, so which brand is better depends on how much you spend.
| Nike | adidas US | |
|---|---|---|
| Discount | 10% off most items | 30% off select full-price items |
| Limit | First $500 per code (max $50) | Discount up to $250 |
| How often | New code every 7 days | One use per customer, offer expires 12/31/2026 |
| Verification | SheerID | ID.me |
| In store | Military only, at Nike stores (not Company Stores) | Not confirmed for these groups |
For a single larger order, adidas’ one-time 30% saves more: up to $250, reached at about $833 of eligible full-price items. For regular buying through the year, Nike’s weekly 10% adds up. Details: adidas military, nurse and teacher discount.
What other sites get wrong about Nike’s discount
We compared the pages that rank for these searches with Nike’s own help pages. These claims do not match what Nike says:
- “You can stack it with other promo codes and sale offers.” Nike: free shipping codes only.
- “Use the code MILITARY10.” There is no permanent public code. Nike issues a single-use code after verification.
- “Verify with ID.me” or “verify with UNiDAYS.” Nike uses SheerID for all five programs.
- “The student discount works in stores.” Only the military discount works in Nike stores. Students, teachers, nurses and first responders can use it online and in the app only.
- “The code is valid for 30 days” or “re-verify once a year.” A code expires two weeks after it is issued and works once. You verify again for every new code.
- “Immediate family members qualify” or “valid at Converse and Hurley stores.” Nike lists spouses and dependents of active personnel only, and names Nike stores in the US, excluding Nike Company Stores.
- “Not valid on sale items” / “full-price styles only.” Nike’s terms say “most items” and do not exclude sale items.
